Description:
Konami takes its button-pounding arcade classic into the new millennium with International Track & Field 2000. The problem is, it's merely a graphics upgrade of a game that dates back to the early days of video game arcades.

Just like the old Track & Field arcade game, this version features a set of progressively more difficult events that test how quickly players can press two buttons in rapid succession, and their timing for pressing a third button. Gone are the cartoon-like graphics, and in their place are beautiful and accurate re-creations of each event, ranging from the 100-meter dash to a 500-meter canoe race. But take away the new look and you have the exact same game that caused carpal tunnel way back in the early '80s.

Actually, this game isn't quite as good as that classic game, because the arcade controls featured big, springy arcade machine buttons to press, while the PlayStation controller features small, shock-absorbing buttons utterly unsuited for this type of gameplay. Arcade gamers who want to relive that old experience with updated graphics should buy this game only if they own or plan to buy an arcade stick controller for their PlayStation. --Jeff Young
