Description:
Spidey is back on the Game Boy in Activision's sequel, featuring the dastardliest team of Spider foes imaginable. The fiendish Doctor Octopus orders his Sinister Six (Sandman, Mysterio, Kraven the Hunter, the Vulture, and Scorpion) supervillain team to kidnap Peter Parker in an effort to lure Spidey to his rescue (Parker is, of course, Spider-Man, but they don't know that). Instead they find and snatch his venerable Aunt May, and soon Spider-Man is hot on their trail.

Like the previous Spider-Man Game Boy title, Spider-Man 2: The Sinister Six takes place on a two-dimensional series of battlefields. Spidey can wall-crawl, stick to ceilings, punch, kick, and jump, and shoot webs. He can also web-swing from platform to platform. They've given him a few new moves that let him do leaping attacks, and a power-up that makes him invulnerable. The action begins on the docks and moves to other locations, such as a warehouse and office building. A supervillain boss defends each stage; figuring out how to defeat his cronies will keep you on your toes.

The gameplay is simple, but Spidey has a nice array of powers that keep the combat and movement interesting. The game features 18 levels and countless thugs to beat up. Cool comic-book-style cutscenes bookend each level nicely.

Fans of the webhead will be delighted to face off against so many of the wall crawler's cooler rogues gallery in a single game. Plus, the colorful yet minimalist graphics don't disappoint, as Spidey is drawn larger this time around and moves quite easily. But the game's best selling point is the creativity found in the simple yet fun-to-swing-around-in level design. --Andrew S. Bub
